Subject:Official visit of Professor Ahed Al-Wahadni, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Professor Ahed Al-Wahadni, visited Cyprus, following an invitation of the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture. On the 7th of February 2019, Mr. Al-Wahadni had meetings at the Ministry of Education and Culture with the Acting Secretary-General Mrs. Athina Michaelidou, the Director of Higher Education Mrs. Terpsa Constantinidou, the Director of the European Affairs Office Mrs. Niki Papadopoulou-Papa and high officials from the educational, cultural, sports and youth departments. The meetings were attended by the representative of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Demetriou.

Mrs. Michaelidou, welcoming the Secretary-General, referred to the excellent cooperation between the two countries and the opportunities in the field of education. During the meeting, they discussed ways of implementing the agreements which have been signed between the two countries, as well as ways of further enhancing the bilateral relations. A meeting followed, with Deans and Dean Representatives of public and private Cypriot universities. 

The Director of Higher Education Mrs. Terpsa Constantinidou referred to the high level of tertiary education in the Republic of Cyprus and the efforts exerted to make our country an international education destination. The representatives of the universities referred to, inter alia, ways of promoting the mobility of students, academic s and researchers, and the development of common study and research programmes. 

At noon, the Minister of Education and Culture Mr. Costas Champiaouris, hosted a working lunch in honor of Mr. Al-Wahadni. During the lunch, Mr. Champiaouris referred to the long-standing excellent relations between the two countries and expressed his contentment for their cooperation so far. He assured Mr. Al-Wahadni that he will exert every possible effort to further enhance the friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries. Mr. Al-Wahadni thanked the Minister and stated his intention to enhance every cooperation effort between the two countries, in the fields of education and especially higher education.
